Organic Wine Mudgee

Thistle Hill Wines is an independent, well-respected organic winery in Mudgee, whose name is known all over the world. For more than four decades now, we’ve been growing our grapes and producing our drops without the use of pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers. Our decision to work chemical-free was ahead of our time. Today we’re still one of the leading organic wine Mudgee vineyards, creating outstanding wines, while also looking after our beautiful environment.

A founding organic winery in Mudgee

It was Thistle Hill’s original owners, David and Lesley Robertson, who devoted themselves to creating an organic winery. After planting their first chemical-free vines in 1975, they went on to offer their first commercial vintage in 1984. Their decision to go organic was based on two goals. Firstly, they wanted to produce lively wines which were deeply expressive of their local area. Secondly, they wanted to ensure their winemaking had as minimal an impact on the environment as possible.

With the advent of National Certification Organisations, Thistle Hill officially became an organic winery in Mudgee 1993, after gaining certification from the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA). Today, owners Rob and Mary Loughan, who took over in 2009, continue to adhere to organic practices. As a result, Thistle Hill Wines has a loyal following, both in Australia and internationally.
